Lithography
Lithography is a printmaking process based on the principle of oil and water don't mix. The term originates from Greek roots; lithos meaning stone and graphein meaning to write. It is a relatively new printmaking technique invented in 1796 by the German author and actor, Alois Senefelder. The images shown here were drawn on limestone and printed on a Griffin Press. The drawing is made with a grease base crayon and the final product can sometimes be mistaken for an original drawing.
