Vicious Circle?

Did you know that the "spiral is a spiritualized circle. In the spiral form, the circle uncoiled, unwound, has ceased to be vicious: it has been set free." That's what I found on Pinterest. Whether you believe this to be true or not, it does bring into question the dynamics of a circle. Why are they sometimes called vicious? A vicious circle refers to "being in a situation in which the solution of one problem leads to a second problem, and the solution of the second problem brings back the first problem." We think of a balloon or bubble floating in the air as being without restraint; not something problematic to be reckoned with. Yet, as a line whose beginning meets its end, there must be tension in order to maintain a perfect balance between the inner and outer space of a circle. So I continue to make spirals and this image is one of a series of prints from a plastic gel plate. This was my first experience with the material and found it to be challenging while cutting the plate. Nevertheless, a print came forth and what we have today is an image of spirals, opening to ever more opportunities.
